He fixed His gaze on me and you and chose you and me for Himself . He did not choose me and you because of our own doing , but that we might be in Him in Christ . He did not choose us because we chose Him as believers , but so that we might become believers . He did not choose us because we chose Him , but so that we might choose Him . He did not choose us because we know about holiness and goodness but so that we might become holy and good seeing and knowing Him . Everything we are and all we hope to be is rooted in God's unique special love for us . Out of all that He could have created, He chose you and me. Our faith , our hope , our life are not the grounds for us electing God but only for us to realize our reality , we are His . There is no ground for boasting except in God and the assurance that because He first loved us , we are forever His : " Who shall bring any charge against the Lord's elect ! " ( Romans 8:33 ) .
